Less than three weeks until Christmas and a little over a month since we’ve been open. Crazy! It means so much that you shop at Books Around the Corner. Get your holiday orders in now and a reminder we can also order bookish gifts, we have a bunch of new literary themed gifts and shirts in the shop as well. Don’t know what to get that friend or family member? We have gift certificates too! Thank for you for choosing to SHOP SMALL this holiday season and all year long!

During the month of December we’ll donate one book or canned food item to both SnowCap Community Charities and My Father’s House for every purchase you make at Books Around the Corner.

Shop small this December and not only are you helping a local business but also two local charities!

THE DATE IS THE DEADLINE AS BOOKS AROUND THE CORNER IS CLOSED NEW YEAR’S EVE AND NEW YEAR’S DAY.

TUESDAY DECEMBER 18th | Local Author Reading

Jason Arias & Samuel Snoek-Brown

‪6:00 – 7:00pm

Jason Arias will be reading from the short story collection Momentary Illumination of Objects In Motion. This book tells stories of life and death, identity and race, change and resistance to change.

Jason Arias’ lives and works in Portland, OR. His writing has appeared in multiple magazines, anthologies, and Lidia Yuknavitch’s The Misfit’s Manifesto. His debut short story collection Momentary Illumination of Objects In Motion was released October 1st by Black Bomb Books.

Sam Snoek-Brown will be reading from his story collection There Is No Other Way to Worship Them. It’s an eerie, mesmerizing collection of short stories set in Mexico and Texas. Each of the collection’s nine stories are woven together with themes of violence, mysticism and failures in the pursuit of love.

Samuel Snoek-Brown is the author of two chapbooks (Box Cutters and Where There is Ruin), the recipient of a 2013 Oregon Literary Fellowship for his novel Hagridden, and is currently touring with his new short story collection There Is No Other Way to Worship Them. He teaches writing and literature at Pierce College. RSVP HERE

 

FRIDAY DECEMBER 21st | BYOD Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

7:00 – 10:00pm

Come to our festive Bring Your Own Donation Ugly Christmas Sweater Party with 2 Ciderhouse. Bring an item listed below and we will donate them to SnowCap Community Charities and My Father’s House. 2 Ciderhouse will have numerous ciders to taste and purchase! Both Books Around the Corner and 2 Ciderhouse will donate a portion of the sales for the night to these two inspiring organizations as well as all of the donations collected.  If you can’t make it that night we will be accepting any of the following donations during the day on Friday December 21st ONLY. 

Ugliest sweater will win a prize! RSVP TODAY!

 

You don’t need to bring much ANY of the following would help out tremendously and lots of these items can be found at Discounts Plus in downtown Gresham!
